ADVANCED LIFE SUPPORT (ALS)
IMMEDIATE LIFE SUPPORT (ILS)
COURSES
The Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) in
partnership with the Resuscitation Council – United
Kingdom (RC-UK) have jointly agreed to co-badge the
highly regarded ALS and ILS courses currently provided
in the UK. Course manuals and teaching materials have
been adapted to comply with the ARC resuscitation
guidelines. The ARC will administer both courses with
the teaching being undertaken by ARC approved course
centres. Detailed below is further information outlining
each of these courses.
Immediate Life Support
This a 1 day course designed to give the candidate
the skills for managing a cardiac arrest or other
medical emergencies in a clinical setting. The course
covers recognition of the critically ill patient, airway
management, resuscitation procedures, defibrillation and
basic drug therapy. Further details on the ILS course
including how to become a course centre can be obtained
in the documentation below.
Advanced Life Support
This is a 2 to 2 ½ day course which focuses on the
developing advanced skills in managing cardiac arrest
and other medical emergencies. While the course covers
advanced resuscitation skills it is also designed to
develop leadership and team skills in managing such
emergencies. Further details on the ALS including how to
become a course centre course can be obtained in the
documentation below.
How to Become a Course Centre
- Read the documentation outlined above.
- Make application to become a course centre (ALS
or ILS) using the appropriate forms above.
- Your application will be assessed and once
approved you will receive a password to access the
teaching and administrative materials.
When you have received your
password

Cost
ILS: $1000 per year plus $40 per course
participant. There is no limit on the number of ILS
courses course centres can run during this period.
ALS: $150 per course participant. There is no
course centre fee.
The cost for both ILS and ALS courses includes
course registration, course manual and certificate
(credit card type).

separately.
