Policy Statements to Guidelines

As of March 2003 the Australian Resuscitation Council commenced the process of replacing its "Policy Statements" with "Guidelines". Such a transition is consistent with national and international trends in adopting an evidence based approach to health care. Further information regarding the development of evidence based resuscitation guidelines can be found in Guidelines 1.1 to 1.4.

As new guidelines are developed and published, existing policy statements will also be revised and issued as guidelines. As this transition process will take a number of years to complete there will be a period when guidelines will coexist with policy statements. During this time readers should consider both as authoritative statements of the Australian Resuscitation Council.
